Scenario Title: Silence the Guns
Introduction:
Inspired by the legendary Assault on Brécourt Manor during the Normandy invasion in World War II, this scenario challenges players to recreate the tension and tactics of taking on a fortified artillery position. In this mission, an entrenched artillery emplacement has been wreaking havoc on nearby settlements and allied forces. The defenders have positioned these heavy guns deep within a network of defensive structures, with squads and barricades protecting the artillery from direct assault.
An elite assault force has been tasked with a high-stakes mission: to penetrate the defensive line, reach the artillery emplacement, and plant explosive charges to destroy the guns. Time is of the essence, as the guns threaten to decimate nearby forces unless they are neutralized. Like the small group of paratroopers who took down the German artillery at Brécourt Manor, these attackers face daunting odds but have the advantage of surprise, strategy, and sheer grit.
In Silence the Guns, players will need to balance speed and caution, coordinate the approach, and engage defenders effectively to accomplish the mission. Will the attackers manage to neutralize the guns in time, or will the defenders hold out long enough to prevent the destruction of their powerful emplacement?
Overview:
A high-priority artillery emplacement has been wreaking havoc on nearby settlements and military assets. Positioned in a fortified area, this artillery is essential to the defenders' operations, providing crucial support to their ground forces. An attacking warband has been assigned a risky but vital mission: penetrate the defenses, reach the artillery emplacement, and destroy it before it can cause more damage.
Objective:
The attacking force must navigate enemy defenses, locate the artillery emplacement, and plant explosive charges to render it inoperable. The defenders are tasked with holding off the attackers long enough to ensure the artillery can continue its bombardment, hoping reinforcements arrive to push back the enemy.
Setup
-
Defender Setup: The defending force places the artillery emplacement at a fortified position near the center of the battlefield, surrounded by makeshift barricades, sandbags, or any defensive structures available. The defender deploys half of their units around the emplacement to protect it, with the rest scattered on the perimeter.
-
Attacker Setup: The attackers enter from the edge of the battlefield, with the option to divide their forces or bring them in waves. They know the approximate location of the artillery but will have to fight through defender positions to reach it.
Special Rules
-
Explosive Charges: Once attackers reach the artillery emplacement, they must spend one turn to plant explosive charges. A unit must remain within base contact with the emplacement and remain stationary to arm the explosives.
-
Time to Detonate: After the charges are set, they will detonate in two turns unless disarmed. The defenders can attempt to disarm the charges by reaching the emplacement and spending a full turn in base contact, representing their efforts to prevent the destruction.
-
Supporting Fire: Every other turn, the artillery can fire a barrage at the attackers, potentially hitting multiple units in a designated area. This gives the defenders a powerful but unpredictable edge.
Victory Conditions
- Attacking Force: Wins if they successfully destroy the artillery emplacement by allowing the charges to detonate without interference.
- Defending Force: Wins if they either eliminate the attacking force or prevent the charges from detonating by disarming them.
