Scenario Title: Rampage in the City
Introduction:
This scenario was inspired by an unforgettable episode from Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, where an out-of-control robot tank wreaks havoc on the city, drawing in multiple factions with their own motives. Picture this: a cutting-edge robot tank has gone rogue in the heart of the city, tearing through streets and buildings with no regard for its surroundings. Civilians are in danger, and the city is quickly descending into chaos. Enter three different forces, each with a unique agenda. Public Safety forces scramble to stop the tank before it causes more casualties, a team of Tech Marauders attempts to hack into the tank and steal its secrets, and the Corporation that owns the tank is determined to regain control without damaging it.
This scenario came to life after I stumbled upon some incredibly detailed miniatures on Etsy, from Section 9-inspired figures to adversary models perfect for corporate mercenaries. As I pieced the idea together, I realized this could be an epic convention event, where multiple players could jump in and control different factions, adding even more depth to the chaos.
In Rampage in the City, players will need to adapt their tactics to the tank’s unpredictable rampage, handle obstacles in the urban environment, and outmaneuver rival factions with their own goals. Will Public Safety stop the tank in time, will the Tech Marauders crack its code, or will the Corporation wrestle control back over their wayward creation? The stage is set, and the city is waiting.
Scenario Title: Rampage in the City
Overview:
An experimental, heavily-armed robot tank has gone rogue, tearing through the heart of the city and causing chaos. Civilians are at risk, and valuable technology could be lost or stolen if the tank isn’t stopped. Three different factions have arrived on the scene, each with its own agenda: Public Safety aims to neutralize the threat quickly, Tech Marauders seek to hack the tank and steal its secrets, and the Corporation wants to regain control of the tank without damaging it.
Objective:
Each force must navigate the dangers of the city and reach the tank, but each with a different goal. Public Safety aims to disable it, the Tech Marauders want to hack it, and the Corporation hopes to restore its control systems without causing permanent damage.
Forces and Objectives
-
Public Safety Force: Tasked with stopping the tank as fast as possible, Public Safety units have an array of anti-armor weapons and crowd control tools. They prioritize protecting civilians, so they can deploy additional barriers and call for emergency vehicle support.
- Objective: Stop the tank by damaging it enough to disable its core systems.
- Special Rule: Can deploy mobile barricades at key intersections to try and slow the tank’s rampage.
-
Tech Marauders: This rogue tech squad sees an opportunity to steal invaluable corporate secrets hidden within the tank’s systems. Their units are equipped with hacking devices, EMP grenades, and drones.
- Objective: Hack into the tank’s systems by getting within close range, spending two turns to complete the hack. They need to download critical data and then escape the battlefield.
- Special Rule: Once they initiate the hack, there’s a 50% chance each turn that the tank will detect them and focus fire on their position.
-
Corporate Security Team: The corporation that owns the tank sees it as a valuable asset they don’t want destroyed. Their units have limited offensive capability but specialized tools to reset the tank’s control systems.
- Objective: Reach the tank and spend three turns to reboot its control system, regaining control without damaging it.
- Special Rule: They have a failsafe code that can temporarily “pause” the tank for one turn but can only be used twice during the scenario.
Setup
- Tank Location: Place the rogue tank in the center of the city map, surrounded by debris, abandoned vehicles, and buildings. It moves in a random direction each turn, firing on anything that comes within range.
- Faction Deployment: Each faction enters from different edges of the city, with the option to divide their forces or bring them in waves. The tank’s rampage means there are various obstacles and hazards around, such as damaged buildings, fires, and panicked civilians.
Special Rules
- Rampage Path: Each turn, the tank moves in a random direction, creating collateral damage and making it dangerous terrain for other forces.
- Autonomous Defense Systems: The tank has built-in defenses and will prioritize any force that comes too close. Once attacked, it will focus on that faction until another gets within range.
- Collateral Damage: The tank’s attacks have a chance to hit nearby structures, creating unpredictable hazards. If a building collapses, it creates an impassable area.
Victory Conditions
- Public Safety: Wins if the tank is sufficiently damaged to disable it permanently.
- Tech Marauders: Wins if they successfully hack the tank and escape with the data.
- Corporate Security: Wins if they can reboot the control system without the tank being destroyed.
