I am finding that I have been
having less and less time for games these days. I am totally out of miniatures
and I have been selling off my collection.
Where I have been doing more and
more things in the gaming filed is with board games. Little by little there has
been more and more creeping into our lives. Lisa and the kids enjoy them and it is more family
inclusive than the miniature games. While it doesn’t offer the hobby aspect
that miniature gaming does there is a lot more social interaction. Whereas with
a miniatures game there was a lot of prep to play with board and card games
there is relatively little.
When there is an itch to play
miniature wargames, I have the board games and collectable miniature games to
scratch that itch. There is Star Wars miniatures that I enjoy playing with my
kids when I need the SF miniatures fix. The for Star ship combat there are
quite a few choice that I have on hand and ready to buy: Battleship Galaxies,
the Star Trek Tactics game by Wizkids
and the new Star Wars game that Fantasy Flight games is putting together. For
my WW2 itch there is Memoir 44 and Tide of Iron. For other historical there are
the other Command and Color series of games that I enjoy (such as Battlelore).
Sure I do miss the hobby aspect
from time to time. I’ll troll The miniatures page or look longingly at the new offering
s from Warlord games. But that is it.
