Memoir '44
April 16, 2012Been on a bit of a Memoir 44 kick lately. In the last week Lisa and I have played three games that were all quite different.
On the 7th we played a scenario called the battle of Arracourt from the starter set. Lisa took the roll of the Americans and I took the Germans. Lisa played very well and I just couldn’t get my forces together to coordinate a good response. In the end I got pummeled by Lisa 6 medals to 1.
On Easter Sunday I took the role of the Americans to invade Omaha Beach . This time I took the role of the Allies. Unfortunatly even with the switching of sides, it did me no good. I did twice as good this time in that I got 2 medals but in the end Lisa and her Axis forces got 6. Here was a situation where I had a bunch of grand plans but the cards were not in my favor. Again Lisa played very well and got a well timed Ambush card.
A few days later we played battle 38 [Russo-Finnish War]
Suomussalmi [] from
the Eastern Front Expansion. I played the Russians defending the town of
Suomussalmi while Lisa was playing the Finns who were trying to retake the
town.
The battle started at Makinen’s Roadblock where the Finns tried to stop the
Soviet reinforcements. The Finns also attacked from the north eliminating the
picket forces north of Suomussalmi. The battle at the road block ended with
both sides destroyed except for one Soviet infantry unit which proceeded to aid
in the defense of Suomussalmi.
The Finns attempted to retake the city and while there were casualties on both
sides it wasn’t enough to dislodge the occupying Soviet forces.
