I love Richard Borg’s Series of C&C Games; I have a bunch of them but still the one my wife and I keep coming back to is 1st Editions Battlelore.
Before we moved. I finished up painting the first edition set (it only took me 13 years). We didn’t get a chance to break it out before our move but once we got settled in we broke it out and played it a few times. There was a little learning curve to it see as we had not played it in 6 years. But is was as we remembered it.
The thing that sets it apart from other C&C games is the council. It adds complexity and flavor without going overboard. A good chunk of the scenarios where you have fixed forces it is the thing that the players get to configure it their armies.
At the last GobbleCon a good friend of ours was getting rid of some expansions and gave us a fantastic deal on the Dragons and the Heroes boxes. While we have not got the Heroes on to the table yet they Dragons we among the first figures painted at our new place and gave us the impetus to get cracking again with these.
I still have lots to paint for these. One day, I plan to get the next box into the queue. But until then we have plenty to keep us going.
